Learning That Roots Deep
Skillful Sprout started with a simple belief: the best learning happens when tiny hands are busy, not when screens are glowing. Based in the UAE, built by a mom who understands both the science of child development and the beautiful chaos of family life.
From a Screen-Time Struggle in Dubai
Skillful Sprout was born from a realization Swaliha had while balancing her roles as a private tutor and a mother in Dubai. During her tutoring sessions, she noticed children often lacking genuine enthusiasm for traditional learning. Their minds were frequently elsewhere, often just waiting for the moment they could get back to their screens. Worried for her own toddler, who was already getting glued to overstimulating YouTube videos followed by intense post-screen tantrums, Swaliha thought: there has to be a better way.
She started making simple laminated activity sheets for her three-year-old, designing velcro matching and sorting games by hand. The change was immediate. Her daughter stayed engaged longer, didn't throw tantrums, and genuinely looked forward to her 'activity books' every morning.
Friends started asking for copies, and friends of friends did too. What started as a personal solution to a daily screen-time struggle grew into a mission: to help UAE families escape the stress of too much screen time and rediscover hands-on learning.
"I did not set out to build a business. I just wanted my kid to develop healthy, hands-on learning habits that keep them happily busy. It turned out thousands of parents wanted the same thing".

Swaliha Baza
Founder & Lead DesignerSwaliha is a UAE-based private tutor and mother who brings both professional insight and lived experience to every busy book Skillful Sprout creates. With a background in early childhood research, she balances data-driven development with a deep personal belief that the best learning tools are the simplest ones. Instead of flashing lights or passive screens, she focuses on building purposeful, hands-on activities that cultivate deep engagement and real skills for her daughter.
She draws inspiration from Montessori principles, the Reggio Emilia approach, and the everyday moments of raising a bilingual child in a multicultural home. When she is not designing new activity pages, she is testing them on the toughest critic she knows: her daughter.
"My hope is that every child who opens a Skillful Sprout busy book feels like they are about to play, not about to learn. The learning takes care of itself."
